Engine Test and Development Engineer
Location: Lichfield
Salary: Up to £45k per annum
Hours: 38 hours per week (Mon-Thurs 08:30-17:30, Fri 08:30-12:30)

A well-established engineering business based in Lichfield is seeking an experienced Engine Test and Development Engineer to join its growing team. Working within a multi-disciplinary engineering department, this role offers the opportunity to be part of exciting development programmes across transport, aerospace and power generation markets.

This position is suited to a hands-on engineer with a strong background in internal combustion engine testing, diagnostics and prototype development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engine development and testing work packages throughout the product lifecycle
  • Plan, execute and report on engineering prototype and development tests
  • Conduct engine builds, strip-downs and system diagnostics
  • Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for test and product issues
  • Maintain and operate engine test facilities and instrumentation
  • Assist with ECU calibration, wiring and control system integration
  • Support the specification and troubleshooting of test equipment and rigs
  • Work collaboratively with design, production and quality teams to meet programme goals

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a test and development role (engine-based)
  • HND or Degree in Mechanical, Automotive, or Aerospace Engineering
  • Experience with engine dyno systems (e.g., Froude Eddy Current Dynamometers)
  • Familiar with engine electronics, sensors and data acquisition systems
  • Hands-on experience in prototype engine builds and component testing
  • ECU calibration or mapping knowledge advantageous
  • Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills
  • Confident in technical reporting and documentation
