Job Title: Welder

Location: Braintree

Salary:£14-£17p/h

You will join a specialist manufacturer, producing metal structures, parts & formwork systems for stairs, balconies, balustrades and related architectural / structural components. Your work will be key to ensuring the high quality and integrity of welded assemblies used both off-site and on-site. The role involves working with various metal materials, reading fabrication drawings, following welding procedures, and supporting a lean, efficient production process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform manual and semi-automatic welding operations (e.g. MIG, MAG, TIG, MMA &/or Flux Core) to join metal components in accordance with drawing specifications and welding procedures.

  • Fabricate, assemble, and finish metal work (stair frames, balconies, balustrades, socket connections etc.) ensuring dimensional accuracy and weld quality.

  • Read, interpret and work from technical drawings, templates, jigs and specifications.

  • Carry out pre- and post-weld inspections; monitor weld quality, check for defects (cracks, porosity, etc.), and perform weld repairs as needed.

  • Operate workshop machinery and tools safely (grinders, plasma cutters, saws, etc.).

  • Maintain and care for welding equipment, keep work area clean and organised.

  • Collaborate with fabrication, quality control, and installation teams to ensure welded parts meet structural and aesthetic requirements.

  • Meet production targets, deadlines, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Follow health, safety and environmental policies, ensuring compliance with welding and metalworking safety standards.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Proven welding experience in metal fabrication, ideally in construction / architectural / structural metalwork environments.

  • Certified or demonstrable proficiency in relevant welding processes (MIG/MAG, TIG, MMA, etc.).

  • Ability to weld mild steel, stainless steel, possibly aluminium, depending on spec.

  • skilled in reading technical drawings – able to work to tolerances and quality specifications.

  • Good hand-eye coordination, attention to detail, finish and quality.

  • Comfortable working as part of a team as well as independently.

  • Basic understanding of fabrication / structural metalwork principles.

  • Strong commitment to safety and quality in welds.
