Job Opportunity: Assistant Manager – Corporate Tax Department
Due to expansion in the Corporate Tax Department, we are seeking an Assistant Manager to join our team at our Bury St Edmunds office. This is a full-time position, requiring 37.5 hours per week. The ideal candidate will be ACCA, ACA, or CTA qualified, or have a strong desire to pursue the CTA qualification, along with at least two years of post-qualification experience in Corporate Tax. A solid understanding of corporate tax compliance and prior exposure to corporate tax advisory work is essential.
The successful applicant will be an excellent communicator, both verbally and in writing, with the ability to work effectively in a team as well as independently. Attention to detail, self-motivation, and the capacity to perform well under pressure are critical attributes.
Key responsibilities will include assisting the Corporate Tax Directors in delivering high-quality compliance services for a range of corporate clients. This will involve preparing and submitting R&D tax claims and contributing to various corporate tax advisory projects. The role also requires experience in managing, mentoring, and coaching junior staff members.

Responsibilities:
The Assistant Manager will assist the Corporate Tax Directors and collaborate with the team to provide high-quality compliance services for a range of corporate clients. This includes the preparation and submission of R&D tax claims and various corporate tax advisory tasks.
Key Activities:
- Tax Responsibilities
- Review draft corporation tax returns for managers, associates, and partners as requested.
- Present key findings from reviews to managers, associates, and partners.
- Identify potential tax issues and planning opportunities, communicating these to the Corporate Tax Directors and relevant team members.
- Provide support on corporate tax compliance matters to colleagues across the firm.
- Conduct research and conclude on technical points regarding corporation tax compliance, communicating findings appropriately.
- Communicate with HMRC regarding client matters as they arise.
- Assist in providing corporate tax advisory services, including the preparation of R&D tax claims.
- Engage in corporate tax advisory work, which may include drafting tax clearances, preparing valuation reports for tax and commercial purposes, and writing tax advisory reports on various subjects such as tax planning, restructures, and reorganisations.
- Coordinate the preparation of ATED annual return forms and ERS annual return forms, monitoring their progress through control spreadsheets.
- Client Management and Business Development
- Manage and complete corporate tax work delegated from others, keeping directors, partners, and associates informed of progress.
- Develop and maintain client relationships through regular communication via phone, email, and meetings.
- Identify opportunities for additional services related to corporate tax and discuss them with the Corporate Tax Directors and relevant team members.
- Participate in business development activities, including representing the firm at networking events as required.
- Engage with marketing activities to raise the profile of the business.
- Demonstrate confident and reliable tax knowledge when interacting with clients.
- Collaborate with senior staff to gain a comprehensive understanding of the business.
- Staff Management
- Provide technical assistance to non-tax staff.
- Deliver corporate tax training to non-tax staff appropriate to their experience level.
- Assist with tax software (e.g., Alphatax and CCH) for non-tax staff and provide basic training as needed.
- Delegate tasks effectively and review the work of junior staff to ensure compliance with professional standards.
- General Responsibilities
- Perform general administrative tasks.
- Promote teamwork and assist in developing internal relationships through effective communication.
- Liaise with colleagues as required.
- Participate in internal and external meetings as necessary.
- Identify and pursue personal job-related training to meet professional development criteria.
- Provide general and specific support to partners and colleagues as needed.
- Undertake other reasonable tasks as assigned by partners.
- Engage in appropriate training to meet continuing professional development (CPD) requirements.

- Exhibit excellent time management skills and an understanding of time management in professional contexts.
- Attend and actively participate in managers’ meetings at the Bury St Edmunds office.
